United Safety Services has all the answers to your frequently asked questions. With 70-plus years of experience, we have seen a tremendous number of systems in the Pittsburgh area. From commercial kitchens and hoods to huge air handling systems, from ballparks to hospitals, we’ve done it all.
Our customers often have many questions regarding our air duct and kitchen exhaust cleaning services. Below, you will find some of our frequently asked questions and their answers:
Commercial kitchens cook plenty of meals for patrons. The cooking process produces plenty of smoke and grease that the exhaust system is responsible for capturing and safely venting outside. Because of this, the system gets coated in grease and becomes a fire hazard. That is why it needs to be cleaned regularly. You should be cleaning your kitchen exhaust system every quarter. It may need to be cleaned as often as every month, depending on the volume of food cooked. A dirty system becomes less efficient, causing it to work harder and wear out faster. Also, check with your local fire marshal to determine what your fire code dictates.
Cleaning your air ducts provides many benefits, including improved energy efficiency, better air quality, mold and mildew protection, and prolonging the life of your HVAC systems. You, your employees, and your customers will breathe easier after getting your air system cleaned. See our Air Duct Systems Cleaning page for more info.
Absolutely. We’re always looking for a few good men and women. Please go here for more info.
Our clients prefer a subtler approach than a large truck idling on the curb with a vacuum and a huge hose blocking the door open. We employ HEPA vacuums and create access to ensure the entire system gets cleaned.
Commercial properties should have their air system cleaned every 2-4 years. The exact frequency will depend on the average occupancy of the property, the size of the property, and how much you are using your HVAC systems.
We used to, but newer adhesive technologies have presented tapes that adhere better and leave less residue. But we love duct tape! Ask us about the time our founder hemmed his pants with duct tape!
As you can imagine, it varies on the size and complexity of the system. The typical kitchen exhaust cleaning service takes 3-4 hours. Other air-handling systems can take a day, a week, or even a month. Other factors are the conditions we’re working in - are we working from atop a lift or outside in the elements? We service one system atop a high-rise building where we’re only allowed on the roof if the “hawks allow it.” Whatever the conditions, we have crews standing by to help you get your system clean, safe, and efficient.
Yes, we provide damper verification services. Please go to our Fire and Smoke Damper Verification page.
As you’d expect, this depends on your level of comfort. The first time, it always helps to have someone around to show us the ins and outs of your facility, but many of our clients trust us to do our jobs and come in after hours, cleaning the system and departing before they start their day, the only evidence that we were there a sticker on the system and all of the dirt gone.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, don't hesitate to get in touch with a member of our team. We handle all types of services, including commercial air duct cleaning, kitchen exhaust cleaning, damper verification, and more. No matter your needs, trust our team to ensure that your air duct system is always in tip-top shape. We have all the proper knowledge and tools to safely remove grease buildup and other contaminants. Thoroughly cleaning the air ducts will ensure your kitchen equipment is running correctly.
